Two countries, one trip

Mountains to beach is our concept for a 2 to 2.5 week hosted trip that pairs northern Vietnam's mountain roads with southern Thailand's islands. It starts with cool air and switchback roads and ends with longtail boats and long beach afternoons, with a small group and a host the whole way.

Vietnam: the Ha Giang loop and Ninh Binh

After a couple of days eating your way around Hanoi, the concept heads to Vietnam's far north for three to four days on the Ha Giang loop with local drivers, through Quan Ba, Yen Minh and Dong Van, over the Ma Pi Leng pass and onto the Nho Que river by boat, with nights in homestays. Back south of Hanoi, Ninh Binh means rowing boats through limestone karsts and the climb to the Mua Cave viewpoint.

Thailand: Krabi, Railay and the islands

The second half moves to Thailand's Andaman coast: Railay's limestone cliffs, kayaking and an island stretch around Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta for snorkelling and doing very little. The Thailand leg is coming soon, so treat it as the least settled part.
